Reflection
This assignment was done in the class Junior Seminar. The purpose of this assignment was to teach the rest of the class something that we are experts on. I partnered up with my classmate Rachel to teach the class CPR because we are both certified. Rachel and I communicated with the Red Cross to bring in dummies that the class could practice on, and we held an in-person workshop. Rachel and I had fun creating a video, a slideshow presentation, and a workshop example. I feel that this assignment adressed my interpersonal skills. From working together with Rachel to combine our ideas and compromise, to communicating with our community and the red cross for resources, to working with our classmates to teach them the necessary skill of saving someones life. From this assignment, I am most proud of the fact that Rachel and I were able to get the human dummies specially made for CPR practice, into the classroom. The fact that we were able to use a hands-on method to demonstrate and exemplify to the class, was beneficial to the class's engagement and learning. I feel that I developed my interpersonal skills with this project because it was one of the first times that I had been challenged with teaching the class something. I really had to hone my interpersonal skills through trial and error so I could successfully convey my "expert" knowledge to my classmates. Talking to students is one aspect of interpersonal skills, but another aspect is creating enough of a trusting connection that the students respect and listen to you as a teacher. I also improved my interpersonal skills with my communication between Rachel and myself. The most difficult thing with this assignment was communicating with Rachel and the Red Cross. Rachel and I both have very busy lives, so finding a time to organize our efforts to contact the Red Cross was a challenge. I feel that I could improve our presentation on this assignment by covering more than just CPR. I think that if we were given more time, it would be really helpful to teach the students not just about CPR, but everything you could have to do in an emergency situation. This project related to what I have learned in the past because I had to call on my expert knowledge from when I got certified in CPR and apply it to this project. This project will apply to my future learning because it developed my interpersonal skills which will be valuable throughout my life. I can also apply the knowledge of my further research into CPR to any emergency situation I might come across.
