Reflection
This project was a seminar in my completely online history class in which we collectively analyzed the literary text from ancient Mesopotamia, Gilgamesh. We were placed in groups of five and directed to ask each other questions to form a discussion in an online padlet site. I feel that this assignment addressed my information skills because we worked to communicate with our peers through technology, due to the asynchronous nature of the class. We performed literary analysis on the online source for Gilgamesh, conversed with our peers using technology, navigated the online padlet site, and became proficient in researching to find answers to our peer's close-ended, open-ended, and world-connection questions. From this assignment, I am proud of my analysis of the text and my answers to some of my peer's questions. I feel that through this assignment I was able to gain a better understanding of the Epic of Gilgamesh as a whole, especially the apparent themes, which were dissected in my answers to the questions of my classmates. I feel that I improved my information while completing the seminar because I was forced to have a discussion that would usually be in person, online. Navigating the site we used for the assignment forced me to adapt technologically and develop my information skills. I also improved them because the amount of research we had to do taught me to be more efficient. The most difficult thing about this seminar was answering everyone else's questions, and thinking critically enough to provide a concise thoughtful response. It was somewhat difficult for me to organize my ideas and find all the information needed to submit a worthy response to my classmate's inquiries. I feel that my participation in this seminar was sufficient, and I do not think that I would change anything about what I did, because I received a 100%. This seminar related to what we learned previously in the history class because we had been learning about the culture, customs, history, and geography of ancient Mesopotamia for a while before we read the Epic of Gilgamesh, which is set in ancient Mesopotamia. I can apply many of the skills taken from this seminar to my future learning. For example, researching and analyzing online literary sources will greatly benefit me in college because that is a necessary skill. I feel that my development of informational skills will come in handy in the next socratic seminar coming up in my history class.
