As my future quickly approaches, I have chosen a path of furthering my education. The place where this will take place is the University of Victoria in Canada. As of now I am set to major in Science:General, however upon arrival, I hope to go the route of biology, and through years of schooling, narrow into environmental science/biology. For this first year after high-school, my goal is to make new connections, and experience a new world far from home. I hope to learn about the fun differences between Canada and the US, for example, the metric system, and the driving. I also hope to experience life in a different climate from Maui and find joy in doing new actives that come with it. For example, continuing my interest in snowboarding in areas around Vancouver. As well as exploring surf towns around Vancouver island. I feel that through Kihei Charter, UHMC, my significant support system of family and friends, and my jobs and extracurriculars, I am prepared for life after high school. As most of mine and my parents available finances will go to tuition and living expenses, there will be little extra money, so I know I will encounter budgeting challenges. From UVIC, I received a $10000 entrance international scholarship, which will account for some of my expenses. Additionally, the conversion from US to Canadian dollars reduces my costs. I plan to live on campus at a dorm, so certain living expenses, along with tuition will need to be paid. At UVIC, I have applied for a double room, ideally with a roommate of my choice and I am currently on a search for someone compatible. Further, in addition to tuition and housing, a meal plan, transportation, and other personal expenses such as phone bills must be paid. Most of these expenses will be paid for by my parents and I am very grateful. However I will be able to help with some costs using my savings and external 3rd party scholarships I have applied to so far this year. To conclude, I am excited to start a new chapter of my life!
