About Me
|
Hi, my name is Claire Eller and I was born on January 31st 2006 in Maui. I grew up in a small town called Kihei. I lived in Keonekai Villages until I was 9, then I moved to Puuhoolai street. I started Elementary school at Kamalii. During fourth grade I transferred schools from Kamalii to Montessori in Kihei. After that I went to Emmanuel Lutheran in Kahului. I only stayed at Emmanuel Lutheran for one quarter, because I did not really like all the religious focus. I started Kihei Charter in eighth grade. Origionally, I chose Kihei Charter because my friends went there, however after attending for 5 years, I have learned about the benefits of my choice.
My extracurricular activities include dance. Ever since I was 3, I participated in Jazz, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Ballet. When I was 13 I earned my pointe shoes in ballet. Normally I have dance class 4-5 times a week. I have participated in dance classes from when I was around 7 to now, and I am at the level of pointe shoes in ballet. During my years before Covid, I was in JPG for Jazz, Gravity Crew for Hip Hop, and moving into Contemporary 2.
So far I have participated in three Nutcracker ballet shows. My roles have been a candy cane, a snowflake, a flower, and a spanish dancer. I am very passionate about dance and I hope to continue my ballet career in college.
Throughout high-school, I have found classes in the sciences very engaging. I have taken a few science related college classes such as Biol 124, Environment and Ecology, Anthropology, Psychology, and History 151. In all of these courses I engaged in 21st century research, where I examined the problems of today, using insights from the past, and it peaked my interest. I would like to learn more about the environment because I feel it is a pressing issue for the future. A project that I have completed which specifically raised my interest in the environment was my senior project, which was related to planting and growing Native Ohia trees of Hawaii. I do plan on attending university, and I have not figured out where yet, but some of my choices are to go to Victoria, go to California. I have gotten into colleges in California, Washington, Oregon, and Canada. The biggest struggle for me throughout the college decision process has been deciding on which school is the most feasible financially, My current and next steps include applying for third party scholarships, and examining my financial aid packets.
Senior Year smart goals:
1. I hope to successfully submit 10 applications to colleges on my list and organize, letter of recommendations and my college essay by November 31st
2. Successfully plant and get started on the growth of 3 Ohia Lehua trees outside of Kihei Charter School by winter break.
3. Successfully increase my stamina and pointe work each week by working outside of dance class, to prepare for my Nutcracker role in mid December.
