Description
This project was given to me in my communications college course with UHMC. In this course we learn about how people communicate with each other, and how communication can be improved. The unit we are working on right now is about culture and the role that it plays in listening and speaking in personal and professional roles. For this project we were tasked with creating a slideshow based on the prompt:
What is the role of culture in listening and speaking in personal and professional roles? How are these the same and different?

Reflection
I feel that this project addresses my global awareness skills. In making the slideshow, I was invested in researching different cultures from around the world and their communication tendencies. To learn about intercultural communication and demonstrate proficiency on globally relevant topics such as cultural diversity in the workplace and how one navigates that, was very beneficial to my education.
I feel that I developed my global awareness skills through furthering my education regarding issues such as cross cultural communication. In my slideshow, through researching for my project, I learned very valuable techniques on how to improve my communication personally and professionally. Before this project I did not know as much as I do now about how cultural differences affect communication.
From this project I am most proud of the organization and aesthetics of the slideshow as well as how in depth I examined different personalities a culture can have, and tendencies each culture makes when communicating.
The most difficult thing about this project was finding a way to demonstrate an answer to such a vague guiding question. The question my teacher presented me with can be interpreted in many different ways. I found it difficult to find a definitive answer in our chapter to the question, so I had to use my critical thinking skills to summarize.
I would improve this project by adding more slides. Though the slide number requirement was only 10 detailed slides, I feel that I could have better explained the concept if I gave more examples and created more slides with new and helpful information.
I can apply this project to my future, because in my future, most likely, I will participate in a professional environment in which there are multiple cultures present. After completing this project, I have further insight into how I can keep my communication effective despite cultural differences in personal and professional settings.
This project relates to what I have learned in the past because we have been examining interpersonal relationships this whole semester in my communications class. Putting all of my knowledge together in a cumulative unit project felt satisfactory.
