Final Essay
Reflections
The assignment that I chose to share is The Final Essay in Humanities. We were instructed to write an 8 paragraph essay on 2 of these topics. * Discuss at least one of the themes of the book - use evidence from the book and discuss how the theme manifests itself in various ways, metaphorically and literally
* Discuss how the book relates to the real world. Make parallels between events that happen in the book with stories that have happened in the real world. You must cite your sources in MLA format
* Summarize the book. You may do this as part of one of the other options.
* Put yourself in the story - become a character in the book and interact with one of the main characters. What’s your perspective? What choices would you make?
I chose to write about the last 2, and I wrote myself into the story of The Hate U Give By Angie Thomas as Starr’s (the main character) twin sister, while I summarized the story from Starr’s twins’ perspective. Even though we were supposed to write 8 paragraphs, I wrote 10.
I chose to describe, and share this on my portfolio because I felt very proud of how much I wrote, and how I told the story. I was really proud of how much work I put into it, and I wanted to share this because I find the topic of this book very interesting.
I feel that this assignment represents the Global Awareness 21st Century skill because The Hate U Give is a story that raises awareness about police brutality, and equality. By writing this essay, writing myself into the book, and summarizing it in my own words, I got a deeper understanding of the ebook and how it relates to the world.
This demonstrates my current growth because an essay can really give you some insight into the level of someones writing skills, and because I received a 20/20, I believe that this showcases how well I did on this work. This work was challenging for me in the way that I struggled to focus for long enough periods of time so that I could write10 paragraphs about a topic.
If I could do this again, I would probably want to gloss over some of the events in the book, more simply, and not as in-depth, so I would not have to write as much. I could improve by making sure that I put quotation marks around direct quotes from the book. Overall I feel that I did a good job, and I would not make any huge changes in my writing.
