Communication math comic
This project was very interesting and fun. For this project, we needed to make a comic using the trigonometric functions. We were required to show three examples in the real world of tan, sine, and cosine. My story in the real world was based on a ballet dancer who was auditioning for a part in the nutcracker. Throughout her audition she needed to create certain angles and find the missing angles created by her limbs. Using trig, the judges were able to find the angles, and decide if she got the part. Another big part of the project was the peer reviews.
From this assignment I am most proud of my drawings in the comic and the concept of the ballet dancer. Because of the fact that I do ballet, this topic was personal to me, so I enjoyed creating the angles with the dancers' limbs.
I feel that this assignment addresses my communication skills because creating a comic is a way of communicating my knowledge through the form of writing and art. The peer review portion was another form of communication. We read over anothers comic and gave our advice on how to improve their comic. This was a big part of communication for me, because my communication with my peer reviewer was very helpful in the process of drawing my comic.
I developed my communication skills while completing my peer review because it was a unique type of communication based on the comic and the constructive feedback/criticism.
The most challenging aspect of my project overall was lining up the numbers that I used for the calculations so the equation and answers make sense with my storyline.
If I could go back and redo my project, or improve it in any way, I think I would be more neat with my narration and the words written in the boxes. I also think that I would have used markers instead of colored pencils to color in the comic.
This project related to what I have learned in the past because for the last few weeks in geometry we had been studying trigonometry functions and how to use them in the real world, so this culminating project helped me to close my thoughts and conclude this topic.
I can apply this knowledge to my future learning in the SAT and ACT tests because I have heard that trigonometry is an important skill to know . I can also use this knowledge for future math classes, and my next year algebra 2 class.
